Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes was in Broadford on Friday 23 August for the opening of the Broadford Family and Children's Centre Expansion.
This project has brought significant enhancements to the Broadford community, including another new kindergarten room with capacity for 33 children.
This third stage of expansion works to the Mt Piper Kindergarten will support Mitchell's continued growth as well as the roll out of the State Government Best Start Best Life reform providing 15 hours of free kindergarten for all three-year-old children and increasing to 30 hours of free kindergarten for all four-year-olds by 2036.
The works also involved expanding the centre's entrance, Maternal Child Health Service area, and increased car parking to ensure appropriate access and entrance points.
Additionally, hallway space was expanded to improve accessibility, and a dedicated parent's room was added to facilitate support meetings with families.
Mayor Councillor Louise Bannister said the project was vital for the continued successful integration of early childhood and family services at the centre.
"By expanding the centre, we are enhancing its ability to deliver services in a welcoming and accessible environment," she said.
"These works allow more families to benefit from essential programs like free funded kindergarten programs".
"Mitchell Shire is growing at a rapid rate and projects like this are key to supporting our growing community.
"We're very grateful for the support of the Victorian Government to make these works possible."
The $2.063 million project was made possible thanks to $1.763 million from the Victorian Government and $300,000 from Mitchell Shire Council.
