Broncos Wrestlers Join Fight Against Breast Cancer

Mater

Brisbane Broncos stars turned pro-wrestlers Daniel Vidot and Alex Glenn are calling on Queenslanders to dig deep and throw their weight behind women fighting breast cancer.

With the Mater Chicks in Pink International Women's Day Fun Run, presented by Queensland X-Ray only weeks away (Sunday March 9), the community is being encouraged to help raise more than $1.8 million.

The funds will provide personalised support services and state-of-the-art equipment to better diagnose and treat patients, as well as investing in life-saving breast cancer research at Mater.

The iconic event sold out in a record three weeks, with 23,000 people set to hit the streets of Brisbane on March 9.

Mr Vidot was in Brisbane from the United States last week (14 February) for a whirlwind wrestling event alongside Mr Glenn, his former teammate.

Mr Glenn has three children, Miller, Gisele, and Oakley, and said the cause was close to his heart.

"We all know someone affected by breast cancer, and together we can come together and raise crucial funds to ensure better outcomes for future generations," he said.

"It's important we find a cure for breast cancer – the disease claims the lives of millions of women globally."

One in four Queenslanders diagnosed with breast cancer is treated by Mater.

Mr Glenn said those who missed out on joining the city's Sea of Pink can still support the fight against breast cancer by making a donation.

Mater Foundation Chief Executive Andrew Thomas said funds from the event will go towards life-saving breast cancer research, as well as services and support for breast cancer patients at Mater hospitals in Brisbane, Springfield, Redlands, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton and Bundaberg.
