The Lawler Labor Government is getting the Territory connected with Budget 2024 investing $2.3 billion into Territory transport infrastructure.
The Federal Government's recently announced an additional $480 million budget investment in the Territory, which will pave the way for working opportunities and increased road safety across the Territory.
New key road projects for Territory roads and highways funded by the Australian Government include $120 million of National Highway network upgrades for the Stuart, Victoria and Barkly Highways, $72 million for upgrading and sealing Port Keats Road connecting Wadeye to Palumpa, $64 million for the Arnhem Highway Duplication and $64 million for the Berrimah Road duplication.
The Lawler Labor Government is delivering stronger, safer and more reliable roads for all Territorians. Major road projects already underway includes the $825 million to complete the sealing of the Tanami Road, the $344.5 million Outback Way project, and $415 million to upgrade and seal remote and regional roads under the NT Strategic Roads package. The $165 million Tiger Brennan Drive and Berrimah Road overpass is set to be complete by the end of this year.
A $2 million planning study is currently underway to assess and improve the Territory's flood resilience on the Territory's National Highway Network funded through the NT and Australian Government Disaster Ready Fund.
Recently the Territory Government awarded $3 million contract to local company Arnhem Earthmoving and Mechanical to repair flood damage on the Buchanan Highway with the works expected to support eight Territory workers.
The Lawler Government is also investing $7.4 million to repair flood damaged sections of the Stuart, Barkly and Tablelands Highways following major flood damage caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie. While temporary works were completed in 2023 to keep the roads open, this investment will restore the highways to pre-flood condition with local Territory companies Gulf Civil Pty Ltd and Remote Concrete NT set to commence the works next month.
Roads get the Territory moving, they get the Territory working, and the current transport infrastructure program includes another 10 critical projects worth over half a billion dollars combined, providing a steady pipeline of work for Territory businesses.
