- Part of Cook Labor Government's commitment to making Western Australia the healthiest State in the nation
The Cook Government is investing $24 million in Joondalup Health Campus in the upcoming 2025-26 State Budget to enable more public patients to access care.
The hospital's newly built public ward block, which is due to open imminently, has 46 beds made up of 30 surgical/medical beds and 16 cardiac care unit beds.
The additional investment will see two shelled floors of the public ward block undergo a complete fit-out, to deliver a further 60 beds which will cater for public patients.
Other works already completed under the Joondalup Health Campus expansion project include a 102-bed mental health unit, recently awarded the International Design in Mental Health Awards' Project of the Year 2025 New Build International, and:
- more emergency department beds;
- refurbished patient discharge lounge;
- central sterilising services department; and
- multi-storey public car park and additional parking for staff.
One new theatre and two interventional catheterisation laboratories, to replace one existing laboratory, will open as part of a significant expansion of the public theatre block shortly.
In addition, two new shared public/private operating theatres, funded by Ramsay Health Care (RHC), are on track for completion in September.
Ramsay Health Care is delivering the Joondalup Health Campus expansion project through a public-private partnership via a funding agreement between the State Government and RHC.
The Australian Government contributed $158 million to the project.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"I want Western Australia to be the healthiest State in the nation.
"That's why my government is laser focused on investing in our hospitals so that every Western Australian, no matter where they live, can access good quality healthcare.
"That's exactly what our Budget will deliver.
"By bringing more beds into Joondalup Health Campus, we're ensuring our hospitals have the capacity they need to service our State's growing population."
As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:
"We're continuing to invest and improve our already world-class healthcare system, to meet the evolving needs of Western Australians.
"This investment as part of the upcoming State Budget will enhance health services for our community and provide contemporary facilities for our frontline staff to deliver the exceptional care the community expects."
As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:
"This additional investment in the expansion of Joondalup Health Campus is set to deliver 60 more beds, improving patient care and hospital capacity in our northern suburbs.
"We have an ambitious agenda to deliver world-class health infrastructure across the State and this significant investment demonstrates that."
