Build Your Confidence in Online World at your Local Library

Coffs Harbour City

Council's libraries are now offering a series of free, hands-on workshops for older people who want to get even more out of their smartphone or the internet.

The move follows the success of tapping into the tech-savvy of young people from the 'youngster.co' team to help local seniors with smartphones navigate the post-pandemic world of QR codes and apps at popular sessions hosted by library branches.

People can sign up for one or more two-hour sessions covering a wide range of subjects – and it's all free. The sessions include:

  • Introduction to Smartphones
  • Introduction to the Internet
  • Introduction to Emails and Attachments
  • Online Shopping and Banking

"This is a great program for anyone who may want to learn how to do online shopping, connect with family and friends online and learn more about what their smartphone can do for them," said Jane Kreis, Council's Service Leader Cultural Development and Programs.

"Cyber security is also built into each session, providing tips on how to play safe when sharing personal information and downloading stuff online."

The first series will be held at Coffs Harbour Library:

  • Introduction to Smartphones - 12 October and 14 December
  • Introduction to the Internet - 19 October
  • Introduction to Email and Attachments - 26 October
  • Online Shopping and Banking - 9 November

Thanks to the NSW Government's 'Tech Savvy Seniors' funding, Council's libraries will continue this program until May 2022. Sessions are also planned for Woolgoolga and Toormina Libraries.
