- Crisis and transitional accommodation for young people
- Project being delivered thanks to a $5.7 million State Government grant
- 20 single-occupant rooms built to accessible standards
Crisis support agency Indigo Junction have appointed McCorkell Constructions to deliver 20 dwellings for youth accommodation in Midland.
The 20 single-occupant rooms are being built thanks to $5.7 million in funding through the State Government's Community Housing New Build Grant program.
Indigo Junction provides accommodation and crisis support for people in the Midland area who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, children and family services, family and women's domestic violence support and youth and community programs.
On completion, the youth accommodation project will provide crisis and transitional accommodation for young people, predominantly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, aged 15 to 25.
The three-storey complex will comprise 10 bedrooms for crisis accommodation and 24/7 supervision as well as 10 one-bed units on the second and third floors designed for transitional accommodation.
The development allows Indigo Junction to provide accommodation for young people with disabilities, with the final design ensuring there is a high standard of disability access throughout.
The project is expected to reach completion at the end of 2026.
As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:
"Our government has invested or allocated more than $5 billion in housing and homelessness measures to assist the most vulnerable people in our community, including our young people and those living with disability.
"The Community Housing New Build Grants program is a critical part of our social housing investment program and is providing financial support the community housing sector needs to deliver for our State's most vulnerable people.
"Housing remains one of our government's top priorities, and we will continue to invest in new initiatives that support vulnerable people in our community and make homes more affordable."
As stated by Midland MLA Steve Catania:
"Indigo Junction does really important work in our community, and this funding from our government will ensure that critical work helps more people in our community.
"Our government has invested significantly to deliver projects just like this, and I'll continue to advocate for and support more assistance for people in need throughout the Midland area."
