The Allan Labor Government is pulling every lever at its disposable to build more homes for families in Bendigo, including unlocking unused land to deliver hundreds more social and affordable homes in Bendigo.
Premier Jacinta Allan today announced that the Labor Government will build approximately 160 new homes in Flora Hill - transforming the unused site at 2 Osborne Street with more homes including social and affordable housing.
With a range of housing types and lot sizes set to be offered, this project will ensure more homes in the areas where people want to live, close to the people they love and the things they love to do.
Flora Hill's historic Eumana House will be retained and incorporated into the new residential community while the former site of the Bendigo Teachers' College which is predominantly vacant will be repurposed.
Delivered by Development Victoria, early works are expected to begin by mid-2025 once the site is purchased from La Trobe University.
We're also delivering 84 new homes at St Aidans Road in Kennington, with the Labor Government's approval of the development set to provide more safe and secure housing for those who need it most.
The social homes include 64 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom apartments which will be delivered across five residential buildings and provide homes for more than 80 people currently on the Victorian Housing Register.
The development will feature a community and residents hub, covered outdoor area, work stations, gardens, extensive landscaping, parking and bicycle spaces.
Construction is set to begin this year and will replace the 30 independent living units currently on the site.
The homes are being delivered as a partnership between VincentCare Community Housing and Homes Victoria through the Labor Government's landmark $5.3 billion Big Housing Build.
