Upgrades to one of the busiest sporting facilities in the state are now complete.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, celebrated the opening of upgrades to the New Town Sporting Precinct.
"Our Government recognises the vital role sport plays in supporting both mental and physical health," Minister Duigan said.
"That's why the Tasmanian Government invested $1.5 million into this important facility."
As part of the Stage 1 works, the former bowls green has been transformed into two new floodlit netball courts, complete with fencing.
Synthetic grass surrounds and new sun protection have been installed on existing bowls greens.
"This will ensure year-round comfort and accessibility for all players," Minister Duigan said.
"By investing in facilities like the New Town Sporting Precinct, we're delivering for Tasmania by building healthier, more active communities and providing infrastructure that supports inclusion and accessibility for everyone.
"This project has been made possible thanks to the dedicated efforts of the City of Hobart, contractors, and local community members, who have all played an important role in bringing the vision to life.
"These new amenities are designed to meet the evolving needs of the community and will enhance participation in sport and recreation for generations to come.
"We know sport helps build teamwork, leadership, and connection across all ages and backgrounds, and that's why we're proud to have delivered these works.
"This upgrade is an example of our Government working together with the community to deliver our plan for Tasmania, to keep our state moving forward."
