Cardinia Shire Council officially opened the Bunyip Soccer Cricket field, located at Bunyip Recreation Reserve, at a special opening event.
Works at the redeveloped field included:
- New drainage and irrigation to reduce maintenance and water costs
- Upgraded sports field surface for safer play
- New perimeter fencing
- Synthetic covered cricket wicket located between the two pitches
- New 100 LUX LED lighting, and;
- Interface works to link the sports field and the existing pavilion.
The sports field upgrades also included upgrades to 2 soccer fields, one for juniors and one for seniors.
The exciting redevelopment was jointly funded by Council and the Victorian Government.
Cardinia Shire Council contributed just over $1 million to the project, while the Victorian Government also provided $500,000 as part of the Community Support Fund.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jack Kowarzik officially opened the new community asset with Bunyip Ward Councillor Graeme Moore, and sporting representatives from the Bunyip soccer and cricket clubs.
"The community has been looking forward to this redevelopment for some time, and we're delighted to be able to declare the Bunyip Soccer Cricket field officially open," Mayor Kowarzik said.
"This project is a great improvement to the reserve and the upgrades will better meet the needs of the sporting and wider community in Bunyip."
