The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging wind in the Adelaide metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of the West Coast, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula and Murraylands districts, according to SA Police.
Damaging winds averaging 55 to 65 km/h about coastal areas, with peak wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h in showers and thunderstorms, are expected to develop near and following the cold front from the west later this afternoon. Damaging winds are then forecast to extend east across the remainder of the warning area overnight tonight.
Locations which may be affected include Elliston, Port Lincoln, Cleve, Maitland, Kingscote, Adelaide, Victor Harbor, Murray Bridge, Meningie, Bordertown, Naracoorte and Mount Gambier.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your property.
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
