Police have charged a boy with more than 50 offences following a string of burglaries and vehicle thefts in the Townsville District between May and June.
It will be alleged the boy broke into multiple units at unit complexes at Oonoonba Road, Idalia; McIlwraith Street and Willmett Street, South Townsville; and Mitchell Street, North Ward.
Ongoing investigations by police led them to an address at Pimlico at 11am yesterday where two boys were located, however they fled. While fleeing, one of the boys threw a brick, which narrowly missed hitting a police officer. After a brief foot pursuit, the pair were arrested and taken into custody.
A 17-year-old Palm Island boy has been charged with 51 charges including 18 counts of burglary, 10 counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, seven counts of entering a premises, five counts of attempted entering a premises with intent, four counts of entering a dwelling, two counts of receiving tainted property and one count each of wilful damage, serious assault of a police officer, possessing a knife in public, assault occasioning bodily harm, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He is due to appear in the Townsville Children's Court today.
A second 17-year-old West End boy was charged with one count each of burglary and attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is due to appear in the Townsville Children's Court today.
