The Business Council welcomes the Federal Government's decision to streamline occupational licensing arrangements, which will boost productivity, address skills gaps and increase job mobility.
Business Council Chief Executive Bran Black said the reforms initially rolled out to electrical trade licences would assist in addressing shortages.
"Boosting productivity needs to be a national priority, and these measures to further streamline licensing for electricians will assist in this regard by affording tradies the freedom to pursue job opportunities right around the country," Mr Black said.
"It's projected that Australia will need an additional 30,000 electricians by 2030 for clean energy projects, and so this announcement will make becoming a sparky even more appealing.
"The BCA called for a National Productivity Fund so the Federal Government could leverage its balance sheet to help states and territories undertake important but difficult productivity enhancing reforms, and this announcement is an example of the Fund being put to good use.
"Identifying further opportunities to streamline licensing and regulation is critical to addressing national skills shortages, and so we hope this announcement will pave the way for other trades to benefit from genuine cross-border skills recognition."
