Both are associated with PAYE (pay as you earn) tax data.

- public administration and safety - down 2.5 percent (4,247 jobs)
- health care and social assistance - up 0.8 percent (2,092 jobs)
- education and training - up 0.9 percent (1,771 jobs)
- accommodation and food services - up 0.9 percent (1,425 jobs).
Filled jobs changes by region
At a regional level, the largest changes in seasonally adjusted filled jobs compared with the December 2023 quarter were in:
- Auckland - up 0.3 percent (2,376 jobs)
- Bay of Plenty - up 0.9 percent (1,243 jobs)
- Canterbury - up 0.4 percent (1,089 jobs)
- Hawke's Bay - up 1.0 percent (802 jobs)
- Waikato - up 0.3 percent (699 jobs).
Filled jobs changes for men and women
In actual terms, from the March 2023 quarter to the March 2024 quarter, the number of filled jobs rose by 2.3 percent (25,476 jobs) for men and rose by 1.8 percent (20,331) jobs for women.
Earnings by industry
In actual terms and at an industry level, the largest increases in total annual gross earnings for the year ended March 2024, compared with the year ended March 2023, were in:
- health care and social assistance - up 16 percent ($3.0 billion)
- public administration and safety - up 13 percent ($1.8 billion)
- education and training - up 11 percent ($1.3 billion).
