The UWA Public Policy Institute will host a free online event for the community to provide the latest evidence about COVID-19, help people make informed decisions and navigate the vaccine landscape. The event will take place at 5.30pm on Tuesday 20 July.
With continued debate and mixed information surrounding COVID-19 and the rollout of vaccinations in Australia, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.
During this Q&A-based virtual event, leading experts in public health, immunology and policy will tackle the most pressing community questions.
Event panel members
- Associate Professor Christopher Blyth from the UWA Medical School who is also co-chair of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation and co-director of the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases at Telethon Kids Institute will provide information on the different vaccines available, their effectiveness, and address common questions and concerns from the public.
- Dr Katie Attwell from the UWA School of Social Sciences will talk about community attitudes to vaccines and the importance of research and government policy in effective vaccination rollout.
- Dr Melinda Boss from the UWA School of Allied Health will discuss the impact of COVID-19 on pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, and concerns they may have surrounding vaccines.
- Associate Professor Archa Fox, from the UWA Schools of Human Sciences and Molecular Sciences will examine the technology, production and supply aspects of AZ and mRNA vaccines and how Australia is tracking in its rollout of vaccines.
- Dr Barbara Nattabi from the UWA School of Population and Global Health will investigate the spread and control of COVID-19, including what has been effective and what needs more attention.
