- Two projects underway with more than $23 million of WA Government funding awarded to Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale
- Contract awarded for $1.34 million Byford Bike Pump Track
- Agreement signed for remainder of $22 million allocated to the Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct
Major improvements to sport and recreation facilities in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale are on track thanks to combined WA Government funding of more than $23 million dollars.
The financial assistance agreement for State Government funding for the first stage of the Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct was signed today. Common Ground Trails Pty Ltd was recently awarded the contract for works on the Byford Bike Pump Track at Briggs Park.
Originally earmarked for a nature splash park, the $1.34 million in funding allocated as a 2021 election commitment was repurposed for the bike pump track project at the Shire's request in March this year.
The pump track will include jump lines plus shade shelters and seating, with construction expected to begin in March 2025.
The $18.5 million financial assistance agreement signed today for the first stage of the Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct was on top of $3.5 million already provided for planning and design.
The estimated project cost, minus planning costs, is $25.22 million, with the Shire contributing $6.72 million.
The project on the 63-hectare site in Mundijong will include:
- two senior AFL ovals with floodlighting and supporting infrastructure;
- six cricket nets;
- a 1500sqm pavilion, including four changerooms and covered viewing area;
- single carriageway entry road;
- 213 carparking bays (three carparks).
Construction is expected to commence in March 2025 and be completed by December 2027.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:
"The Cook Labor Government is committed to supporting the development of sports and recreation facilities to meet the needs of our communities.
"It was an honour to be able to sign the $18.5 million financial assistance agreement today for the remainder of our Government's funding for the first stage of the Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct.
"This precinct will provide much-needed facilities for this growing community and the Byford Bike Pump Track project will also provide a great new recreational space within Briggs Park.
"These projects will bring major economic and social benefits, ultimately allowing more people to get involved in sport and recreation activities and to benefit from an active lifestyle."
Comments attributed to Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones:
"I am delighted that both projects are going ahead thanks to the Cook Government.
"The legacy of these projects will be improved health, mental health and community cohesion. It is very exciting for the local community."
