James Orchard has been appointed to the Cricket Australia (CA) Board.
Orchard fills the vacancy left by the previous South Australian Cricket Association director John Harden who stepped down after eight years as a director in May. He will join the CA Board on July 24.
A member of the SACA Board since 2019 and Vice President since 2022, Orchard brings extensive finance and cricket experience to the CA Board.
A chartered accountant, Orchard is Managing Director of accounting firm Accru-Harris and a Fellow of the CAANZ (Chartered Accountants) and the Institute of Company Directors.
Orchard played for Sturt Cricket Club for more than 20 years including four seasons as First XI captain, was a member of the SA state training squad and, beyond his role with the SACA, has furthered his involvement in the game in junior coaching and development.
Mike Baird, CA Chair said:
"James will be a tremendous addition to the CA Board and his professional expertise and extensive cricket knowledge will complement the skills of the current directors.
"James joins the Board at an exciting time as we look to grow the game across Australia, further support our world champion national teams and create great experiences for our fans including throughout the highly anticipated 2024-25 season.
"I would like to again thank John Harnden who played an enormous role as a CA Director over the past eight years and provided invaluable support during my time as a Director and Chair."
Will Rayner, SACA President said:
"James's vast experience, both on the cricket field and in the fields of finance and accounting, will be as sorely missed by the SACA as they will be profound assets for Cricket Australia.
"With a strong background in the game's grassroots through to high-performance level, James is a great advocate for cricket at a national level and has been heavily involved at a state level for decades.
"The SACA congratulates him on his appointment and looks forward to working closely with him in his new role on the CA Board."
