The Government of Canada is working with municipalities throughout the country to offset the impacts that increased housing demand is having on rural and urban centres, locally and nationwide.
The Government of Canada is investing to address housing challenges in Newfoundland and Labrador and provide much-needed assistance where it matters most.
Investment in sustainability
Today, the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, announced a non-repayable investment of $462,900 for Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL), through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program.
This investment will help address the provincial housing shortage and provide better access to safe and affordable housing. Capacity building among municipalities will be facilitated by MNL through the hiring of two Capacity Building Officers, who will work with communities and other organizations to undertake housing needs assessments, identify options for increasing housing inventory, as well as pursue programming and funding opportunities.
Today's announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to strengthening communities and setting the stage for a strong, sustainable future.
