A 53-year-old man will be extradited to Cairns from Moree today, May 3, following investigations into the indecent treatment of a child.
It will be alleged the incidents occurred at a Manunda address in 2008 and involved a child known to the man.
Following ongoing investigations by Detectives from the Cairns District Child Protection and Investigation Unit, the man was intercepted while travelling through Western New South Wales on April 29, with the assistance of New South Wales Police.
The man has been charged with five counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 and is due to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 7.
Officer in Charge of the Cairns District Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) Detective Senior Sergeant Mick Gooiker warned police will continue to target offenders in the community.
"We investigate all reports of offences against children and will not give up until offenders are held accountable," Detective Senior Sergeant Gooiker said.
"We acknowledge the courage required by a young person to come forward and make a complaint and will continue to work with vulnerable children to prosecute offenders in the courts."
