Nominations for the local 2025 Australia Day awards are now open, and the Leeton Shire community is being encouraged to nominate individuals and groups who they believe are worthy recipients of an award.

Each year, Council presents awards across several categories at an Australia Day ceremony, celebrating the outstanding contributions made by individuals, community groups and organisations in the Shire.

The categories for the 2025 Australia Day Awards are:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Lifelong Citizen of the Shire
  • Achiever of the Year
  • Young Achiever of the Year
  • Group/Organisation/Event of the Year
  • Sportsperson of the Year
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year

Mayor and Leeton Shire Australia Day Committee Chairman, Cr George Weston, encourages the community to put forward nominations.

"There are many unsung heroes in our community who selflessly improve the lives of those around them and they should be awarded for that."

"There are also those individuals and groups who excel with determination and dedication in their chosen pursuits. What better way to recognise these local individuals, groups or organisations than on Australia Day," said Mayor Weston.

Nominating is simple and can be done online at https://bit.ly/LSCAusDay2025 or via completing a hard copy paper form which is available upon request from the Council Main Office, Library or from the Leeton Visitor Information Centre.

Nominations close at 5pm on Wednesday, 8 January 2025.
