It's time to say a big Aussie 'thanks' to our community champions, with nominations for the 2023 Campaspe Shire Australia Day Awards now open.
Mayor Chrissy Weller said the awards were a wonderful chance to recognise and acknowledge individuals and groups that have made a difference in their community.
"Our people are the pillars of strength in Campaspe Shire and these prestigious awards recognise their exceptional noteworthy contributions.
"We all know someone who deserves a pat on the back, who leads by example and makes our shire a better place to be."
Mayor Weller said nominations for the awards in recent times had been affected by Covid-19, with numbers dwindling in some categories across the past two years.
"I call on everyone to think of a worthy nominee in their district, as three categories are awarded in each of the shire's districts."
Nominees must live within Campaspe Shire and can be entered into one of three categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and Community Group of the Year.
Winners of the district awards will then be judged to decide the overall Campaspe Shire award winners.
The towns within each district are:
- Echuca & District – Bamawm Extension, Echuca (south, east and west), Gunbower, Kotta, Patho, Torrumbarry
- Kyabram & District – Kyabram, Lancaster, Wyuna
- Rochester & District – Ballendella, Bamawm, Diggora West, Lockington, Nanneella, Rochester, Strathallan, Tennyson
- Tongala & District – Koyuga, Kyvalley, Tongala
- Waranga Ward – Corop, Colbinabbin, Girgarre, Rushworth, Stanhope, Toolleen
Award recipients are announced on Australia Day at events across the shire.
