FOUR local artists will be commissioned to create sculptural pieces for the upcoming ACRE21 festival.
A sculptural piece will be commissioned for each of the four Town TWIG events being held in May and June, at Nyah, Moulamein, Balranald and Quambatook.
An expression of interest process opened today and closes on 5 April, with artists from across the Swan Hill,
Gannawarra, Balranald and Murray River council areas encouraged to apply.
ACRE21 is being run by artist network The ACRE Project.
The ACRE Project's Ian Tully said it was exciting to support local artists and give them a chance to exhibit their work in a public space.
"ACRE21 will include eight on-farm artist residencies across the four council areas, as well as a Town TWIG in each area. These Town TWIGs will be a chance for local communities to come together, share in some topquality music, a fire and a good chat," he said.
"It is for these Town TWIGs that we are commissioning local artists to create an ephemeral sculpture to act as the feature artwork.
"ACRE21 will be our biggest collaboration yet. We have received fantastic support from the four local councils involved and this is one way of giving back, by commissioning a local artist for these feature works."
Each sculpture must incorporate the element of fire, be at least two by three metres in size and be both selfsupporting and simple to install.

The ACRE Project is a collaboration between artists, farmers, community development workers and arts workers from across wider Swan Hill region. The ACRE Project runs on-farm artist residencies, seminars, workshops and exhibitions that look at how art and agriculture intercept with history, community resilience and planning.
