Camden Council has welcomed the NSW Government's $15 million investment to kickstart planning for a major public hospital in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, describing it as a critical step forward in delivering the services needed for Camden and South West Sydney.
The funding announcement aligns directly with Camden Council's advocacy through The Time Is Now, which called on the State Government to secure a site for the delivery of a new public hospital located between Oran Park and the Western Sydney International Airport.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, said the hospital was a vital piece of infrastructure the community has been calling for.
"This announcement is a major win for our community and something Camden Council has been strongly advocating for," she said.
"With our population growth soaring at an incredible rate, we need essential services like this hospital to keep pace. We're pleased to see the NSW Government recognising this need and investing in planning now, before the new airport opens.
"Council will continue to work closely with the NSW Government to ensure this hospital is delivered in the right location, with the right services, and with our community's future firmly in mind."
The announcement for this much needed hospital is just one of the priorities Camden Council has championed through The Time Is Now, which highlights infrastructure required, including in transport, roads and education.
Additionally when it comes to healthcare, The Time Is Now calls for the State and Federal Governments to retain and redevelop Camden Hospital by expanding its services, as well as fund and deliver co-located integrated health hubs in Oran Park and Leppington Town Centre.
