Following on from the resounding success of Campaspe Shire Council's International Women's Day dinner held in Rochester on 6 March, Council is delighted to announce a $1500 donation to local charity The Kyabram Gift, the majority of which was raised through a raffle on the night of the IWD event.
The Kyabram Gift is a community-driven charity that provides practical and emotional support to local families affected by cancer. It relies on the community's help to be able to continue to make a difference in the lives of those affected by this disease, through projects such as financial assistance for medical expenses, offering emotional support, and providing practical assistance with daily tasks.
Campaspe Shire Council's IWD dinner event was coordinated by the Campaspe International Women's Day 2025 Working Group. The sold-out event was attended by more than 150 people who enjoyed listening to a panel of inspirational female speakers, followed by a buffet-style dinner, and a raffle which raised a total of $1357.10. Council rounded this figure up to $1500 and presented a cheque for this amount to The Kyabram Gift representatives Ali Walsh, Ruth Green and Helen Heard on Monday, 31 March in Kyabram.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell, who presented the cheque on behalf of Council, said The Kyabram Gift was a worthy recipient of the funds raised through the IWD dinner event.
"The Kyabram Gift is a gift itself to people affected by cancer in our shire," Cr Mackrell said.
"Any support we can offer The Kyabram Gift brings comfort in the knowledge that our contribution is helping those in our community who are struggling through a difficult situation that could indeed become reality for any of us at some point in our lives."
Campaspe Shire Councillor Zoe Cook attended both the IWD dinner and the handover of the fundraising cheque.
"Both the IWD dinner event and The Kyabram Gift are a testament to the generosity of women in our shire," Cr Cook said. "Not only in the amount raised and donated on the night, but also in all the background work women do every day to organise and fundraise as they concurrently provide care and support across our community."
