Campaspe Libraries are excited to announce a calendar jam-packed with events in the next few weeks.
Kicking things off, the Echuca library will host live musical performances during the Echuca Moama Winter Blues Festival this weekend.
Mayor Rob Amos said that this was another example of libraries as vibrant cultural centres.
"Libraries are the heart of our community. They are a place where writing, music, art, and technology converge, providing a range of resources that cater to all interests."
The following week Campaspe Libraries begin the celebration of Library Information Week 2024 across all Campaspe library sites, from 29 July until 4 August. This annual event is dedicated to promoting the vital role libraries play in our communities by providing access to information, fostering literacy, and supporting lifelong learning.
Mayor Amos said that Library Information Week is an opportunity for the public to explore the wide range of services and resources offered by Campaspe Libraries.
"Libraries offer a treasure trove of resources, and this special week is dedicated to recognising the contributions of libraries, librarians, and library workers in sharing knowledge and strengthening communities.
This year's theme, "Roots of Democracy," reminds us of the vast resources available at local libraries, from books and digital resources to programs and events that cater to all ages, ensuring that information is accessible to everyone, and that people can educate themselves and make informed decisions," Mayor Amos said.
Coinciding with Library Information Week, August also marks the start of Family History Month.
Mayor Amos said this would be an opportunity for individuals to explore their unique heritage and hear fascinating stories from other families.
"We are proud to offer a wonderful selection of events with guest speakers talking about their fascinating journey of genealogy."
Library Services Manager Jenny Mustey said there are also library staff who are experienced and can assist you in delving into your own family history.
"Whether you're a novice in tracing your ancestry or a seasoned genealogist, we have a diverse array of resources for library user to tap into.
"Family History Help sessions are 1:1 sessions to help you move forward with your research," Mrs Mustey said.

Rochester Library Celebration
The community is invited to come along for afternoon tea to see the redeveloped Rochester Service Centre and Library space. Come along and see what is available, including study booths, children's space, meeting room and group activity areas. Stig Wemyss will be conducting sessions for school children throughout the day and will also be there from 3.30pm for a meet and greet session after school.

Actress and author Louise Le Nay, known for her role as Sandy Edwards in Prisoner will be hosted by Collins Booksellers. Hear her talk about her latest novel Edenhope.

Local historian and author Alan McLean will talk about his research and recently released history book on the Rushworth area Rushing to Whroo, detailing the period between 1853-1880 when Rushworth was a thriving goldrush town.

Rushworth Family History Day

Mayor Amos said that whether you are a regular library user or new to the services, there is something for everyone not just during August, but all year-round at the library.
