Camper threatened, man charged, NSW

A man has been charged with firearm and trespass offences after allegedly threatening a camper 50km north west of Glen Innes, NSW Police say.

Officers from New England Police District have been told an 18-year-old man was camping on a property on Strathbogie Road, Wellingrove, when he heard shots fired about 7.40am on Sunday 22 April 2018.

He found a man carrying a rifle who had shot a deer and a confrontation ensued.

Police will allege the armed man threatened the camper before leaving the scene.

Police were alerted and an inquiry was initiated.

Following investigations, a search warrant was today (Friday 27 April 2018), executed at a home on Emmaville Road, Ashford, with police seizing firearms.

A 47-year-old was arrested at the scene and taken to Inverell Police Station where he was charged with assault with a firearm and trespass offences.

He was refused bail to appear at Inverell Local Court today (Saturday 28 April 2018).
