Canada Backs Enhanced Tourism at Lumen

Canadian tourism organizations and attractions showcase our country's unique history, geography, culture and experiences that bring people into our communities to see all that Canada has to offer. By attracting domestic and international travelers, these destinations also create good local jobs and economic growth in communities.

Today, on behalf of the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Member of Parliament for Waterloo, announced a Government of Canada investment of $75,000 through the Tourism Growth Program, in the City of Waterloo to enhance the 2024 iteration of Lumen.

Taking place on Saturday, September 21 in locations throughout Uptown Waterloo, Lumen is an annual, free, all-ages festival featuring the work of artists as they explore the interplay of light, art and technology. With Government of Canada support and increased accessibility to over 30 unique, interactive artworks, the associated festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors from outside the region to the Uptown Waterloo area. With increased traffic, this will benefit local businesses in the area. Lumen will feature a number of large-scale installations that will be available for viewing beyond September 21, including 'Trumpet Flowers' by Australian artists Amigo & Amigo and 'Cosmic Wolf' by Ryan Longo. These installations will be in place for the public to enjoy until October 18.

The Government of Canada is investing in tourism projects in the region to support new products and experiences that will support the region's tourism economy for generations to come.
