Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario

Local manufacturers and supply chains in southwestern Ontario grow with support from FedDev Ontario

The manufacturing sector remains a critical driver of southern Ontario's economy. It produces vital goods for domestic and global markets and creates good-paying jobs in our communities. The Government of Canada is committed to investing in manufacturers and companies that are supporting smarter, more sustainable solutions, increasing production capabilities, and building a stronger Canadian economy for all.

Today, Bryan May, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Small Business and to the Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), along with Arielle Kayabaga, Member of Parliament for London West; and Peter Fragiskatos, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities and Member of Parliament for London North Centre, visited Edge Automation Inc. (Edge), a local manufacturer of automated assembly and testing machinery for the woodworking, automotive and consumer goods sector.

On behalf of the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, PS May announced a combined repayable investment of over $7.7 million, for six southwestern Ontario manufacturers: Edge Automation Inc., MTO Metal Products Ltd., New-Form Tools Ltd., Roden Manufacturing, Tradeline Products Inc. and UE Enclosures, that are working to scale up, meet increased demand for made-in-Canada products, and contribute to a stronger economy in southwestern Ontario, Canada and beyond. Information on the projects can be found in the backgrounder.

At Edge Automation, they met with employees and learned about their plans for growth, including becoming a first-of-its-kind woodworking robotics manufacturing facility.

Later in the day, PS May visited New-Form Tools in Stratford, to learn about how the company is strengthening its made-in-Canada saw blade manufacturing for the wood manufacturing industry.

The Government of Canada is committed to ensuring opportunities for all Canadians by providing the tools they need to scale up and seize new opportunities, increase competition in our most critical sectors, and grow our economy.
