Canada is committed to supporting young people overcome barriers, whether at home or abroad. Investing in their education and training is key to helping them find good jobs while contributing to their communities.
The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, today announced that Canada is providing close to $10 million in funding over 6 years to support industry-relevant skills training for young people in the agribusiness sector in Egypt.
With this funding, Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), working with local partners, including the Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education, will set up an innovative learning hub to connect young professionals in Egypt with agribusiness education, training and jobs. Over 20,000 students will benefit from technical training, internships, and career counselling, allowing them to gain climate-smart skills and join the agribusiness industry in Egypt's Beheira, Gharbia and Menofia regions.
Canada and Egypt have a long-standing friendship, built over the course of 70 years of diplomatic relations. In addition to collaborating closely on development initiatives, growing trade ties and strengthening people-to-people connections, Canada works with Egypt to promote peace, stability and security in the Middle East and in Africa.
