Wagga Wagga City Council and Canberra Raiders today announced they have extended their long-term partnership, confirming another National Rugby League premiership game will be played in the city next year.
Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Dallas Tout and Raiders' chief executive officer Don Furner made the announcement ahead of the round 5 NRL clash between the Raiders and Melbourne Storm at Wagga Wagga's McDonalds Park on Saturday 9 April 2022.
Cr Tout said Council is thrilled the club has made the decision to return to the city next year.
"The Raiders' continued commitment to Wagga Wagga reflects the strong partnership between the club and the city which had the potential to grow," Cr Tout said.
"This will be the fourth time in five years that residents of our city and the surrounding region will have the opportunity to watch the Green Machine play one of their NRL games here.
"It is fantastic news for both rugby league fans and for Wagga Wagga as a whole. These sorts of events deliver major flow-on effects for local businesses who can capitalise on the visitors to our city."
Mr Furner said the Raiders valued their partnership with Wagga Wagga and welcomed the opportunity to play another game at McDonalds Park.
"We're really excited to announce we'll be coming back to Wagga Wagga for a fourth time in 2023," Mr Furner said.
"We pride ourselves as the NRL's regional club and we can't wait to come back to Wagga Wagga again next year and continue what has been a great relationship.
"The Raiders have a wonderful connection with our regional areas and Wagga Wagga has become a central part of this connection."
The timing for next year's fixture will be revealed once the draw for the 2023 NRL season is released.
