For over two decades, Cancer Council WA has provided much-needed accommodation services for regional West Australians traveling to Perth for vital cancer treatment.
In that time, thousands of West Australians have called our Crawford and Milroy Lodges home while undergoing treatment, and with thousands of check-ins expected in the years ahead, a need has arisen for expanded accommodation services.
The Cook Government has today announced a $25 million commitment to support the expansion of our Lodges, allowing more regional West Australians to receive the same life-saving treatment which is accessible for metropolitan residents.
Cancer Council WA CEO Ashley Reid said the funding is a significant step in addressing the increasing demand for accommodation for regional patients and their families.
"Many regional people need to travel to Perth for cancer treatment, sometimes for weeks and months at a time," Mr Reid said.
"We are currently unable to meet demand, and we know that with an ageing population, this demand will only increase.
"Our lodges offer not only accommodation but also emotional and practical support to help patients and their families through their cancer journey.
"We commend the Cook Government for this contribution towards the future expansion of our accommodation services for regional cancer patients."
