Cancer Council WA has joined forces with a Perth-based mural company, Mural Media, to remind West Australians about the danger of overexposure to UV with a graphic nine metre x two metre painted mural on the corner of West Coast Highway and Manning Road, Scarborough.
Cancer Council WA SunSmart Manager, Sally Blane, said it was the first time the WA SunSmart team have used a mural as part of a campaign.
"Many West Aussies underestimate the seriousness of skin cancer, so as part of our Two sides of the sun campaign, we have used large-scale art in the hope drivers and passengers will take notice of the significant impacts of UV, and take to steps to protect their skin," Ms Blane said.
"Two in three Australians will develop skin cancer in their lifetime and every year around 2000 Australians lose their life to this disease.
The mural is eye catching and impactful, showcasing artistic talent to skilfully deliver an important message. We hope the mural will encourage West Aussies travelling through Scarborough to protect themselves against damaging UV.
The site of the mural was chosen due to its prominent coastal location and it will be displayed from 25 February to 25 May, 2024.
