Announced at THE World Academic Summit at the University of Manchester, UK, Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC) maintains its position in the top 501-600 universities globally.
The summit explored universities' crucial role in driving innovation, fostering collaboration, promoting civic responsibility, and contributing to global impact for the common good.
UC's influence on regional economic development is substantial, contributing over $790 million to the local economy. With one in two UC graduates who stay in Aotearoa New Zealand joining the Canterbury workforce, the University is a significant driver of economic growth. This strong connection between UC and the local economy has established the University is attracting talent for the city, with high enrolment numbers and continued growth leading to more graduates remaining in the region.
UC recently celebrated a record-breaking Open Day, with an unprecedented number of prospective students in attendance, highlighting the university's appeal to future scholars.
In the 2025 THE Impact Rankings, UC ranked in the top 100 for global impact and achieved top 50 rankings in five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life Below Water, and Life on Land.
