Rockhampton Regional Council is proud to announce funding for 24 local community groups and events as part of the second round of the 2024/25 Community Assistance Program (CAP).
Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Tony Williams said nearly $75,000 has been allocated to a diverse range of local organisations and groups who are holding community events and undertaking environmental projects in coming months.
"These events and initiatives encompass sports, culture, history, pets, sustainability and activities for all ages, including our First Nations. They will offer fantastic opportunities for local residents to participate and enjoy, while also attracting numerous visitors to our region," Mayor Williams said.
"I commend our local community groups for their submissions to the Community Assistance Program. This program is an outstanding resource that enhances not only the wellbeing of participants but also strengthens our entire community.
"This second round brings the total allocation of funds for CAP events in 2024/25 to more than $110,000, so we want to continue to encourage small and large not-for-profit groups in the Rockhampton Region to keep an eye on future funding dates."
Communities, Culture and Heritage and Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson said one of the local groups whose event will shine a little brighter in coming months is CapRescue which received $5,000 for its Colour Me Capricorn Fun Run on Sunday 30 March 2025, which attracts over 500 people each year.
"CapRescue provides a vital service for our community and Council is pleased to support this organisation," Cr Wickerson said.
"Locals and visitors are encouraged to run, walk, skip or stroll through our beautiful Kershaw Gardens in either the 2.5 kilometre or 5 kilometre event.
"With all proceeds from the event going towards CapRescue's life saving services, this is a wonderful reason to get out and about and have some fun on a Sunday morning."
CapRescue Chief Executive Officer Mr Darren Pirie said they were incredibly grateful to Council for its $5,000 grant towards the Colour Me Capricorn event.
"This support helps us deliver a fun, vibrant day for the community — and by getting involved, participants are also helping to keep CapRescue flying and saving lives," Mr Pirie said.
"Colour Me Capricorn is all about fun, fitness and fundraising – and that combination is what makes it such a special day."
