Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council will invest $140m to enhance, rehabilitate and renew assets across the local government area in 2019-20.
The capital works program forms part of Council's overall budget for 2019-20 which shows total expenditure of more than $260m and delivers an operating surplus of $2.7m.
"Council has been very fortunate to receive grant funding for a number of projects that we would have been unlikely to be able to progress without government contributions," Queanbeyan-Palerang Mayor, Cr Tim Overall said.
"This influx of grants is welcomed, especially by the community, but is placing pressure on the organisation in regard to resourcing with a number of projects being carried over from the 2018-19 financial year."
Some of the highlights of Council's 2019-20 capital works program include:
- Regional Sports Complex - stage 1
- Bungendore sports hub
- Development of an off-street car park in Bungendore
- Intersection improvements at Uriarra/Ross/Stornaway Rds in Queanbeyan
- Continuation of the Nerriga Rd sealing project
- Upgrades to the Bungendore and Queanbeyan sewage treatment plants
- Finalisation of the Ellerton Drive extension and Old Cooma Rd projects in Queanbeyan
- Burra 's' bends
- Monkittee Bridge Path at Braidwood (subject to grant funding)
Council's draft Revenue Policy and Fees and Charges show that rates, fees and charges will generally increase by 2.7% which is in line with the rate peg limit set by the NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal. This will see a total bill increase of about $100 per year for residential ratepayers (includes general rates, water access, sewer access, waste and water usage).
Council's draft Operational Plan, Revenue Policy and Fees and Charges for 2019-20 are now on public exhibition until Monday 3 June and can be viewed at: yourvoice.qprc.nsw.gov.au
Community meetings will be held in Queanbeyan (7 May), Braidwood (9 May) and Bungendore (21 May) to discuss a range of matters, including the draft documents.
