A man has been reported after his car crashed and caught fire at Woodville West this morning.
At 1.45am Monday 27 May police and MFS were called to Todville Street after reports that a Holden sedan was on fire in the street. Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the car run south as the fire took hold.
When patrols arrived at the scene they found evidence that the Holden had crashed into a tree on West Lakes Boulevard before it had limped into Todville Street leaking a trail of petrol and catching fire just south of Elizabeth Street. MFS extinguished the blaze but the car was destroyed.
Port Adelaide patrols with the assistance of PD Rusty searched the area before attending the registered owner's address only few streets away.
Here they spoke to the owner, a 28-year-old Woodville West man, and submitted him to a breath test. The man allegedly returned a positive reading of 0.093.
He was reported for drink driving, driving without due care and leaving the scene of an accident. He lost his licence on the spot for six months and will be summonsed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.
The Holden was towed from the scene.
