Detectives from Moreland Crime Investigation Unit have charged a man after he was caught driving an allegedly stolen vehicle in Melbourne's north-west this morning.
Officers were originally called to Sydney Road in Coburg to reports a silver Toyota Kluger was stolen about 11.45pm on Tuesday, 30 November.
Local police began patrolling the area when they observed the stolen vehicle travelling on Pascoe Vale Road in Meadow Heights about thirty minutes later.
Police attempted to intercept the vehicle near the intersection of Barry Road and Malmsbury Drive, however the driver allegedly failed to stop and took off at speed.
The Police Air Wing attended and followed the car from above, with the driver reaching alleged speeds of 140km/h in an 80km zone.
The car was followed to a shopping centre in Epping where the driver pulled over and attempted to flee on foot.
With assistance from the Dog Squad, a 25-year-old Corio man was arrested without incident.
He has since been charged with fail to stop vehicle on police request, reckless conduct endanger life, theft of motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle, drive whilst disqualified, drive in a manner dangerous and drive at a speed dangerous.
He was remanded overnight to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court this morning.
