Cardinia Shire Council has welcomed the announcement of $2.5 million from the Victorian Government's 2021-22 Growing Suburbs Fund for three important community infrastructure projects.
The funding will go towards the following projects:
$1.3 million for Garfield North Community Centre at Cannibal Creek Reserve
$1 million for Main Street Pakenham Revitalisation
$200,000 for Eastern Dandenong Ranges Trail Connection
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield was pleased Cardinia Shire Council received the funding from the Victorian Government.
"We continue to rank as one of the fastest growing areas in the state and this funding support will assist us to continue to deliver the community facilities needed for Cardinia Shire both now and into the future," Cr Springfield said.
"These successful grants are the result of advocacy by Council on behalf of our community and we are excited to these projects come to life."
Garfield North Community Centre
The building of a new multipurpose community facility within Cannibal Creek Reserve, Garfield North will provide a much-needed community centre for the community and support ongoing Recovery from the 2019 Bunyip Complex Bushfires.
The new community centre will be used by existing recreation groups as well as other community groups and provide a location for other functions and events. The $2.3 million project will be jointly funded by the Victorian Government's Growing Suburbs Fund and Cardinia Shire Council's Capital Works Program.
Main Street Pakenham Revitalisation
Main Street in Pakenham is a traditional shopping retail street with a focus on diverse, small businesses. The revitalisation project will include upgrades such as improved pedestrian amenities, new footpaths, improved storm-water management, increased outdoor dining opportunities and provide a consistent streetscape on both sides of Main Street. This project will be jointly funded by the Victorian Government and Cardinia Shire Council.
Eastern Dandenong Ranges Trail Connection
The project will deliver an extension and supporting infrastructure to the existing Eastern Dandenong Ranges Trail (EDRT), connecting it from Edenmont Road in Clematis to an existing trail within the Yarra Ranges Shire. This connection will complete the full scope of the EDRT, linking Cardinia Shire to the Yarra Ranges Shire, benefiting the wider community and attracting visitors to the region. This $300,000 EDRT connection project will be jointly funded by the Victorian Government's Growing Suburbs Fund, and Cardinia Shire Council's Capital Works Program.
