The Boonah service received the Community Training Initiative of the Year award, for the south-east Queensland region, at a gala function held on the Gold Coast.

The award recognises community-based not-for-profit organisations which assist Queenslanders to gain skills, experience, and vocational education and training qualifications.

Carinity Fassifern Community Centre was previously one of three finalists for the award in 2021.

"The award was in recognition of excellence in training and for achieving 90% employment outcomes," said Carinity Fassifern Community Centre Community Development Coordinator, Samantha Caves.

"We were thrilled to have been recognised for the community initiative award as we have been running the community work skills program since 2018.

"Over the past six years we have trained over 200 local community members in Certificate III in Individual Support and have achieved 80% to 90% employment outcomes.

"These participants, who are over the age of 15 years, have a desire to work within the aged care, disability and human services sector."

A total of 30 participants graduated from the latest program held in Boonah, part of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program which trains and supports local youth and adults to enter or return to the workforce.

For the past two years the course at Carinity Fassifern Community Centre has been delivered by training partner, Horizon2.

"Horizon2 CEO Dave Bradford nominated us for the award as he recognised our passion and objectives of providing excellence in training and building capacity for community members within the human services sector," Sam said.

A total of 223 regional finalists across 11 awards categories were shortlisted for 2024 Queensland Training Awards.

After winning for the south-east region - incorporating the Scenic Rim, Gold Coast, Redlands and Logan - Carinity Fassifern Community Centre will now contest the state awards to be held in Brisbane on 7 September.
