Castle Hill Closures For Sunday 21 July Burn

Castle Hill is undergoing another hazard reduction burn this Sunday, with Castle Hill Road and tracks to be closed temporarily.

Mayor Troy Thompson said this week's road and track closure would take place in the morning to accommodate better weather, from 6am on Sunday 21 July 2024 and re-open around 2pm, pending conditions.

"Our crews are undertaking the final of the Castle Hill hazard reduction burns this Sunday, weather permitting and will mean that the road and all tracks will be closed to the public from early morning," Cr Thompson said.

"This burn, being the second and last annual Castle Hill hazard reduction burn, will see about 31 hectares burnt and will cover the area between the Goat Track and Maiden Hair track, Southern side of Wills Street, Scully Street, Wilson Court, and Church Street."

The burns will be undertaken alongside the Queensland Fire Department (QFD) and the Department of Resources and we're encouraging all residents to be aware, take care and follow all directions from Council and QFD.

"The closures will be in place from 6am on Sunday, so we thank those early morning hill-goers for their cooperation and ask that they find an alternate walking track for the day, like Cape Pallarenda or Mount Lousia walking track," he said.

Residents with medical conditions that may be affected by smoke from grass fires are encouraged to take precautions in case smoky conditions affect them during this time.

The controlled burn on Castle Hill is being conducted in partnership with QFD and the Department of Resources and is scheduled to take place from 6am, Sunday 21 July 2024.
