Darwin City Council

The community is invited to attend a splash-tastic party when the highly anticipated Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre opens on Saturday 13 July 2024.

To celebrate the opening, City of Darwin is hosting a free family fun event with activities from 11am until 3pm for people of all ages to enjoy.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said he was thrilled to open the $26.8 million centre, which is a modern and accessible hub that can be enjoyed by all.

"We are delighted to officially open the doors of the Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre to our community," Mr Vatskalis said.

"This centre is a state of the art, family-friendly place that will provide social and physical benefits for people of all ages.

"We are thrilled to be hosting a free family fun event for the entire community to attend and I encourage you to join us at this special event.

"There will be a range of festivities on offer, including give-aways, live entertainment and complimentary access to the amazing pools.

"If you don't want to get wet, the centre also has a large, grassed area, half basketball court and a dry play area featuring a unique sensory dome, the first of its kind in the Northern Territory.

"We have worked hard to deliver this project within budget, and I would like to thank the Australian Government for their support, as well as Halikos (now known as DCOH) for delivering the project ahead of schedule," he said.

City of Darwin invested $19.3 million into the project, supported by $7.5 million from the Australian Government.

After the official opening, the centre will commence its usual hours of operation from Sunday 14 July 2024.
