Catholic education welcomes the Australian Government's holistic approach to re view education reform in early childhood, school and tertiary education sectors.
National Catholic Education Commission acting executive director Sally Egan said we look forward to participating in the review of the National Schools Reform Agreement annou nced today, as part of this broader approach, by Federal Minister for Education Jason Clare.
"The Catholic education s ector is committed to improving equitable learning outcomes for all students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds including r egional, rural and remote Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, students with disability, and students from low socio -economi c backgrounds," Ms Egan said.
"Th e government' s commitment to review e arly chil dho od, school and tertiary edu cation will provide a more holistic approach to the transition of students from the early years through their learning pathw ay to post -school study.
"Early childhood is a key national priority area for Catholic education and we will be interested in the findings and recommendations coming from this important review to fu rther inform our work in this area as well as in school reform." The current agreement will be extended for a further 12 months to allow for the review and provides certainty for the next year.
NCEC is the peak body for Catholic Education in Australia and is responsible for the national coordination and representation of Catholic schools and education authorities.
There are 1,755 Catholic schools educating over 785,000 or one in five Austr alian students and employing over 102,000 staff.
