The major structures for the new Causeway Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridges project are now in place, creating a one-kilometre-long river crossing between McCallum Park, Heirisson Island and Point Fraser, east of Perth.
The project will deliver two iconic six-metre-wide cable-stayed bridges over the Swan River, significantly improving connectivity, safety and amenity for thousands of pedestrians and cyclists heading in and out of the city.
Construction on the project began last year, with all 16 bridge modules as well as all bridge pylons now in place ahead of expected completion in late 2024.
Works will now turn to completion of the bridge structures, which will include state-of-the-art functional and feature lighting, creating a new Perth landmark and helping to promote Western Australia to the world.
Jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments, the Causeway Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridges project is supporting around 700 jobs per year in the construction phase.
WA is funding new urban and landscaping design installations at McCallum Park, Heirisson Island and Point Fraser which will create new public spaces, with sculptures, murals, way-finding, new seating and extensive new vegetation.
The significant landscaping program includes 90,000 shrubs together with 200 new trees on McCallum Park, 350 new trees on Heirisson Island, and 140 new trees on Point Fraser.
