Homicide Squad detectives have conducted a secondary canvass of several homes in Sydney's west and released CCTV vision of two people who may have information vital to progressing investigations into the murder of western Sydney man Shady Kanj.
About 11.10pm on Friday 6 August 2021, emergency services were called to Boundary Road, Chester Hill, following reports shots had been fired.
Upon arrival, officers located an injured 25-year-old man. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition. He has since recovered.
A short time later, emergency services attended Rhodes Avenue, Guildford, following reports a 22-year-old man had been shot. The man was treated by paramedics, however, died at the scene.
He has since been formally identified as Granville man, Shady Kanj.
Initial inquiries were conducted by officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command before detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Shepherd.
Earlier this year, police seized a white Lexus hatchback which is believed to have been 'wrapped' in black nylon film to disguise its true colour following the murder.
That vehicle has since undergone extensive forensic examination.
As inquiries continue, detectives conducted a secondary canvass of several homes on Miller Street in South Granville – a location identified as being of interest to the investigation – earlier this week (Monday 1 August 2022).
Strike force detectives have also released CCTV of a white Audi Q5 captured at a fast-food restaurant on the corner of Vaughan Street and Olympic Drive at Lidcombe prior to the murder on Friday 6 August 2021.
Police do not believe the man and woman depicted in the vehicle were involved in the murder of Shady Kanj, however, may have information that could assist with inquiries.
Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, urged the man and woman, or those with knowledge of their identities, to come forward.
"Detectives have released CCTV in the hope of identifying the occupants of a white Audi captured on the night of Shady's murder, as we suspect they have information of value to our investigation," Det Supt Doherty said.
"That vehicle is captured at the fast-food restaurant in Lidcombe before the shooting, then again on the corner of Mona Street and Clyde Street at South Granville later that night.
"Given the vehicle travelled in the vicinity of the murder around the time of the shooting, it is possible the occupants saw something suspicious that may further our inquiries.
"As part of ongoing investigations, detectives returned to Miller Street at South Granville to conduct a further canvass of the area.
"It is believed that those involved in Shady's murder visited Miller Street before and after the incident and may have even disposed of evidence in the vicinity," Det Supt Doherty said.
