CCTV Released in Matraville Assault Inquiry

Police have released CCTV in an appeal for information as part of an investigation into an alleged assault and car theft from Sydney's eastern beaches over the weekend.

About 11.10pm on Sunday (13 October 2024), emergency services were called to a home on Jersey Street, Matraville, following reports of a break and enter.

On arrival, officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were told a 65-year-old woman had been approached by two males as they entered the home.

One of the men assaulted a 70-year-old occupant, causing injuries to his head and hands.

The men allegedly drove away in a blue Subaru XV after taking keys from the home.

The 70-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, the Subaru was located at Hebersham on Tuesday (15 October 2024). The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

Police are now releasing CCTV in an appeal for assistance to help identify a man they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as being of Aboriginal/ Torres Strait Islander appearance and aged in his early 20s.

He is seen wearing a black jumper and pants.
