Celebrate Women's Day Empowerment in Parramatta

The City of Parramatta is rolling out the purple carpet in celebration of International Women's Day next month and inviting the community to attend Empower Her: A Day of Community and Creativity on Saturday 15 March at Parramatta Town Hall.

The free, vibrant event will put the spotlight on women-led businesses in our community and gender equality in support of this year's International Women's Day theme of 'March Forward For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment'.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter said the annual celebration is about empowering women to achieve and succeed.

"Parramatta is a City of dreamers and doers, so it's great that this event empowers female entrepreneurs to dream big and develop successful businesses," Cr Zaiter said.

"This fun event enables the incredible women in our community to demonstrate what they do best."

City of Parramatta Chief Executive Officer Gail Connolly PSM emphasised the importance of championing women-led businesses.

"Local women are making waves across industries and this event is a powerful way to showcase their talent and resilience," Ms Connolly said.

"We're thrilled to provide a space where local female entrepreneurs can shine and inspire future generations."

The community will be able to shop, feel inspired and be entertained all under one roof from 11am until 4pm.

Event highlights:

  • Women-led indoor market: shop products from a diverse range of local female entrepreneurs
  • Interactive entrepreneurship workshops: hosted by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) for tips and skills to enhance women's financial wellbeing
  • Family-friendly activities: henna painting, face painting, arts and crafts, kids' activities
  • Live entertainment: enjoy tunes from a live DJ
  • 360-degree photo booth: strike a pose for some Instagram-worthy moments.

Council will also celebrate International Women's Day with its March Forward invite-only event, with a range of local female students, businesses and organisations attending Parramatta Town Hall to hear from the likes of former NSW SES commissioner Carlene York APM and NRLW Parramatta Eels players Rachael Pearson, Elsie Albert and Ruby Jean Kennard Ellis.
