Celebrating Families Learning Together This 26Ten Week

Tasmanian Government

This year's 26Ten Week is focused on the important role that parents play in their child's development of literacy and numeracy skills.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said 26Ten Week, which runs from 21 – 27 October 2024, is a celebration of the success of adult learners.

"This year's theme Family fun with letters and numbers highlights how families playing, singing and reading together supports children's development of literacy and numeracy skills," Minister Palmer said.

"Having fun together is a great way for everyone to improve their skills, including adults who may lack confidence in their own ability to read, write or do everyday maths.

"We know that one of the biggest motivators for adults to seek help with their own learning is because they want to support their children's learning.

"An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is developing stronger communities and enhancing our regions, and we know investing in literacy and numeracy skills benefits all Tasmanians."

26Ten Week will be celebrated with activities across the State, including at Libraries Tasmania facilities, in 26Ten Communities and throughout the 26Ten Member Network.

During 26Ten Week, libraries across Tasmania are hosting family fun with board games and other activities.

A list of activities is available on the Libraries Tasmania website.
