Nominations are now open for City of Ryde's 2025 Citizen of the Year Awards, when the outstanding accomplishments by individuals in our community will be recognised and celebrated.

The exciting news this year is the addition of two new categories.

Sportsperson of the Year recognises outstanding service to the sporting community over the last five years, while Environmental Citizen of the Year recognises service to the community through environmental and sustainable practices which benefit the community.

They join the existing categories of Citizen of the Year, which recognises outstanding service to the community over the last five years, and Young Citizen of the Year, which recognises outstanding service to the community over the last five years by a young person aged 12-25.

City of Ryde CEO Wayne Rylands said the awards – which will be announced at a ceremony on Monday 20 January 2025 – will be a fantastic beginning to the new year.

"These annual awards held by Council are a wonderful way to acknowledge some amazing achievements," he said.

"Our City is full of inspirational stories of people who have excelled in their chosen field – winners and nominees in the past have come from pursuits as diverse as sporting administrators, business leaders, fire fighters, church leaders, school captains, writers, youth workers and other entrepreneurs.

"I can't wait to see the nominees who will be taking part in the 2025 awards."

The awards are open to all Australian citizens living in the City of Ryde. The Young Citizen of the Year Award is open to Australian citizens between the ages of 12 and 25 years (as at 20 January 2025).

The awards are held under the auspices of the Australia Day Council of NSW and judging is conducted by a local selection panel.

Nominations close on Sunday 24 November 2024. For more details and to find the nomination form click here
