On World Salmon Day, the Tasmanian Liberal Government reiterates its strongest support of Tasmania's salmon industry.
Tasmania's $1.36 billion salmon industry employs around 5,000 Tasmanians, with nine in every 10 of those jobs in our regional communities.
Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Eric Abetz, said the Tasmanian Government wants to see this industry continue to sustainably grow, innovate and remain a key economic driver.
"As Tasmania's largest primary industry, we will continue to stand up for our sustainable resource sector.
"We back our seafood sector to the hilt, recognising a collaborative approach is crucial for maintaining our status as a leader in sustainable seafood production and maintaining our marine heritage.
"In recent years, we have strengthened monitoring and regulation of our salmon industry, to ensure it remains a world leader. In fact, the regulatory framework that applies to salmon farming in Tasmania is amongst the most rigorous of any jurisdiction world-wide.
"Importantly, our most recent evidence shows that adaptive management is working, and we look forward to seeing further improvements.
"Today we say hands off our salmon industry to the Federal Labor Government.
"We will continue to fight tooth and nail to save aquaculture in Tasmania from Labor's threat to shut down the industry and put hundreds of workers out of work.
"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania Future, we will continue to stand up for our sustainable aquaculture industries as well as the unique natural environments in which they operate – not sacrificing either for the sake of the other."
