City of Ryde's annual Sustainability Festival takes place on Sunday 2 June 2024 at Anzac Park in West Ryde and offers the community an informative, fun experience celebrating World Environment Day.
Running from 10.00am-2.00pm it promises to be an action-packed day of education and activities, giving everyone the chance to be a part of something bigger, showing how we can individually make a difference as we work towards making our world a better place.
The festival will help to demystify and understand the day-to-day processes involved in living a sustainable lifestyle and prove that it doesn't have to cost a lot or take up all your time.
There will be over 30 information, market stalls, interactive activities, and workshops on site, each offering a unique, informative experience.
There will be Australian wildlife display animal talks happening every 30 minutes, a bush adventure and river show with craft and tactile activities for all ages, fun lessons about the fun side of recycling at the Veolia stall, and tips on how to create an insect friendly hotel at the Australian Environmental Education stall.
At the Macquarie University tent, you can get involved with hands on activities demonstrating solutions to big sustainability challenges, with a showcase on renewable wind and solar energies, efficient robots for more sustainable agriculture, and how to use fruit to capture light and produce solar energy.
City of Ryde Mayor Clr Trenton Brown said the festival is a vital part of Council's ongoing commitment to sustainability and meeting the challenges of climate change.
"There is no doubt that protecting and future-proofing our natural environment is one of the most important tasks facing us all," Clr Brown said.
"At City of Ryde, we are committed to promoting sustainable living, waste reduction, biodiversity of our natural habitats, sustainable transport, and resilience in our community. I'm proud to say that Council is well on its way to achieving its Net Zero Emissions target by 2035, or sooner, and our community New Zero Emissions target by 2040, or sooner.
