Today marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week, Australia's biggest celebration of volunteering.
Held from Monday, 20 May to Sunday, 26 May, National Volunteer Week celebrates volunteering across the country - with this year's theme being 'Something for Everyone'.
The State Government's WA Volunteer Service Awards will be held on Tuesday, 21 May as part of National Volunteer Week to recognise long-serving volunteers.
Hosted by Volunteering WA, the 2024 WA Volunteer of the Year Awards are also celebrated through National Volunteer Week on Thursday, 23 May.
These awards celebrate the people and organisations who make significant contributions to the community through volunteering.
Volunteer-involving organisations were encouraged to apply for a share of $335,000 in Lotterywest grant funding, administered through Volunteering WA, to host activities to celebrate the week.
The grant funding has supported 253 organisations to host activities that celebrate and recognise their volunteers. Activity highlights include:
- Roleybushcare Inc. 30thAnniversary Volunteer Celebration (Roleystone)
- Celebrating the Volunteers of Pets of Older Persons WA (Maylands)
- Bunbury State Emergency Service Inc. 2024 National Volunteer Week Celebrations
- Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc. Something for Everyone Your Skills are our Lifeblood (Busselton)
- Good Sammy Enterprises Morning Tea and Movie Night (Canning Vale)
- No Limits Perth Afternoon Tea of Appreciation (Wangara)
- Pony Club WA Volunteer Self Care Yoga Party (Orange Grove)
- Short Back and Sidewalks Styles of Service: A Photographic tribute to Volunteer Hairdressers (Inglewood)
- Telethon Kids Institute Volunteer Thank You: Banter, Bites and Board Games in the Park (Nedlands)
- Blind Citizens WA Volunteer Thank You Dinner (Victoria Park)
